This is my view for the next week or so. I had surgery again on my ankle. This was the 4th. Had been having a lot of pain and surgery was the answer. Dr. Shaw told Derek he removed some bone spurs and arthritis. He also shaved off some of my tibia and ankle bone because they were rubbing on each other. I stayed overnight in the hospital because of pain. My previous surgeries were pretty much pain free. This one not so much. Today is 4 days after surgery and I am doing much better. No narcotics today, only ibuprofen. I am very ready to get rid of this cast. It is heavy and the wrap inside is all bunched up. Imagine walking around for 4 days with a fold in your sock on the bottom of your foot. Will update on Wednesday after I see the MD.

Happy 1st Birthday Blake!
Hard to believe that our little B Bug is a year old. B's first year has flown by, much faster than Riley's did. I spent the day working and came home for a small celebration with Ri and Derek and my mom, Gram, and Kim. Blake had vomited before I got home and wasn't feeling so great. He didn't eat any cake and really wasn't interested in it. He did have a good time opening gifts. Looks like Riley is going to have to work on his sharing skills.
Because it only makes sense to revist the night Blake was born, I will retell the story now. I am sure that everyone involved has a different version, but I am the mom so my version will go first. Others who saw things differently are welcome to post a comment.
Blake was born on a Sunday morning @ 2:15 am, or so they tell me. More on that later.
I spent Saturday at a trauma class. I felt great, no pain, no contractions, nothing abnormal. Had dinner at home and decided that I should pack a bag for the hospital, just in case. I had a c-section scheduled for the 20th, but you never know. I got my bag packed and went to bed. I woke up around 12:30 am with the worst stabbing pain in my lower belly. It was sharp and lasted about 2 seconds but was intense enough to wake me. I sat up in bed and said something like, "Ouch", which woke up Derek. After deciding it was nothing, I got up to visit the bathroom (pregnant bladder, augh!). I stood up and my water broke (and this time, unlike with Ri, I knew it). I ran to the bathroom and Derek followed me. The contractions then started. WOW is all I can say. I never had that kind of pain with Riley. Derek called my mom so that she could come stay with Ri. Riley woke up in all of the commotion and was running around the dining room. What a site my mom must have been greeted with: 1 am in the morning, most of our house lights on, Riley running circles around me in the dining room and me rolled up in a ball on the floor. I ran to the bathroom several times because I felt like I was peeing my pants. Amniotic fluid is quite a treat. I went so many times that I flooded the toilet with paper. I tried to mop up all of the water with towels but was pushed out of the house by Mom. She does a great reenactement!
The drive to the hospital took forever! I could have sworn I was going to deliver that baby in the car and was actually really scared. We got the hospital and I was dilated to 6 centimeters. The worst news of the whole night was that my MD wasn't on call. They rolled me into the operating room and made Derek stay out so I could get my spinal. While the anesthesiologist was putting in my spinal the on-call MD came in and wanted me to lie down, "and we'll just have you deliver vaginally". I told him that there was no way I was lying down right then and that he would have to wait for my spinal to be finished. I also asked if vaginal deliveries after c-sections were even safe (oops, wrong question). He whipped off his glove and said, "Fine, we'll just do your section". So they proceded. They started to cut and I told them it hurt. The MD doubted me and the anesthesiologist added more meds. This went on for about 5 minutes. Let me remind you that Derek was still waiting to come in. Finally the anesthesiologist stopped things in the OR and said that he was going to have to give me a general. He was very appologetic that my spinal wasn't working and off to sleep I went. Never saw Derek which I am still bitter about today. I woke up 2 hours later to a beautiful baby boy. Derek was in the room next to the OR and got to see B just after he was born. The nurses in the OR were great and took pictures for us. Blake ended up being about 3 and a half weeks early. He weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces and was 20 inches long but was very wrinkly. Perfect!
I will never forget the day B Bug was born. He is such a blessing and makes me smile many times every day. I don't know what I did to be blessed twice with such precious boys, but I am very thankful.
